ORLANDO, Fla. -- Some things to look for Sunday when Bethune-Cookman opens its 2012 season against Alabama State in the MEAC/SWAC Challenge:
1) Scouting Alabama State: The Hornets were 8-3 last season, with those three losses decided by a total of 11 points. ASU shored up its running back with the addition of former Georgia running back Isaiah Crowell, who was considered one of the nation's top running backs as a high school senior.
2) Bethune-Cookman hasn't lost to a SWAC team since Southern took a 30-29 decision in the 2006 Gateway Classic.
3) Brian Jenkins appears to like a strong start to the season. He's 2-0 in season openers and his teams won those games by a combined score of 133-24. Also, Jenkins is 4-1 against non-conference opponents in the regular season with the only loss coming at the hands of FBS power Miami.
4) This will be the ninth television appearance for B-CU in the Jenkins era. The Wildcats were on a record six times last year and are slated for at least three this season (South Carolina State and Florida A&M the others).
5) While Isidore Jackson would rather see the Wildcat running back corps gain 2,000 yards as a unit more than him gaining 1,000 as an individual, the senior will see his name move up the career rushing list. He's currently ninth in rushing touchdowns (15) and within range of cracking the top ten yardage mark. He currently has 1,380 career yards.
6) Sven Hurd has made 36 consecutive PATs and 49 of his last 50.
7) Eddie Poole has caught at least one pass in each of his 23 games at Bethune-Cookman.
