TAMPA BAY, Fla. - Former Bethune-Cookman safety Jean Fanor has signed with the Tampa Bay Storm of the Arena Football League (AFL), team media relations officials announced early this week. He joins a group of three other players signed in the organization's recent free agent acquisition.
A 2011 B-CU graduate in Psychology, Fanor joined the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent, where his aggressive and physical style kept him retained on the roster until the start of the 2012 season.
The Miami native appeared in 39 games for the Wildcats, recordeding 130 tackles, nine for a loss of 26 yards, three interceptions, five pass breakups, two forced fumbles, a sack and a fumble recovery. Fanor earned All-MEAC honors his senior season in addition to earning the Walter Payton Achievement Award at the 2011 MEAC/SWAC Challenge.
Also signed in the acquisition were defensive back De'Audra Dix (John C. Smith), wide receiver Jason Chery (Louisiana-Lafayette) and offensive lineman Thomas Claiborne (Boston College).
"We are excited with these additions," said Vice President of Football Operations Jeff Gooch. "As an organization, we feel the addition of De'Audra and Jean to the defensive backfield gives us a more physical and athletic secondary."
The 2013 season will mark his first in the AFL, joining the five-time World Champion Storm.
