NEW ORLEANS – Former Wildcats All-American center Natiel Curry has
signed to play for the New Orleans VooDoo of the Arena Football League (AFL),
organization officials announced Thursday, December 13.
Graduating in May (2012) from
Bethune-Cookman with a degree in Business Administration, the Miami native joins
fullback Ivandricks Stumon (Arkansas) as the latest additions to the franchise.
“Nate is one the top centers available and has the ability to play
guard,” said VooDoo Head Coach Pat O'Hara. “His versatility will be vital in
training camp".
Curry was named to the Associated Press FCS All-America third team
as a senior in 2011. He was instrumental, as the starting center, in
orchestrating one of the most prolific Bethune-Cookman offenses in program
history. The Wildcats, who finished 10-2 in 2010 and made the first appearance
in the NCAA FCS Playoffs since 2003, ranked 12th in the nation in total offense
(426 YPG) and rushing offense (213 YPG), while ranking sixth in passing
efficiency. B-CU ranked first in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in all
offensive categories except passing offense, in which it ranked second (213
YPG).
Curry also anchored the line in 2011, in which the Wildcats ranked fifth in the FCS in rushing offense (260 YPG), and 13th in total offense (435 YPG), leading to an 8-3 finish on the year.
In addition to his FCS All-America honors, Curry was selected as a
two-time All-MEAC first teamer, BASN HBCU All-American and SBN Black College
All-American.
“I'm excited to play again,” Curry said. “I'm confident in the
results from my workout habits and I haven't changed since Pro Day. My strength
is probably even better now.”
The VooDoo are an Arena Football League (AFL) team based in New
Orleans, playing their home games in New Orleans Arena. The team is coached by
Pat O'Hara, in his third year, recently taking the team to the playoffs after
coming to New Orleans from the Orlando Predators (AFL).
