DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Three Bethune-Cookman tennis players received
Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tennis player of the week awards, it was
announced Wednesday, February 6.
Gilbert Kibet and Shereen Peterson-Paul were named Men's
and Women's Player Of The Week while Maria Dimitrova garnered Women's Rookie of
The Week for the efforts over the weekend. The Lady Wildcats (3-2) went 3-0
with victories over Palm Beach Atlantic, Coastal Georgia and Florida
College-Jacksonville while the Wildcat men (2-4) recovered from two one-point
losses for victories for a .500 weekend.
Kibet, a sophomore from Kenya, compiled a 5-2 mark
against Florida Southern, Palm Beach Atlantic, and The Citadel. Kibet won in straight sets in singles play against
Florida Southern and Palm Beach Atlantic and came back to win the third set and
match against the Citadel's Elliott Sperr.
Peterson-Paul, a senior from Toronto, Canaga, was 3-0 in
singles action and 2-0 in doubles play to guide the Lady Wildcats to a 3-0 mark
last week. Against Jacksonville, she posted a two-set victory and teamed with
Victoria Galyaeva to capture the doubles point, 8-3.
Dimitrova,a
freshman from Sofia, Bulgaria, aided the Lady Wildcats to a 3-0 record against Palm Beach
Atlantic,Coastal Georgia and Jacksonville. For the week, Dimitrova was 5-1
over, including a 3-0 record in singles play.
B-CU returns to action on Feb. 15 with the women hosting
Florida Atlantic and on Feb. 16 with both teams hosting Webber International
and Hampton.
