DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Bethune-Cookman tennis teams split their Senior Day matches with Florida A&M Saturday, with the Lady Wildcats taking a dramatic 4-3 decision and the Wildcat men falling, 4-0.
It was the regular season finale for the B-CU men, who concluded with a 12-15 overall record and 1-3 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play. The Wildcats will have a No. 4 at next week's conference tournament in Raleigh, N.C.
The Lady Wildcats (14-10,4-2) will be a No. 3 seed. They host Florida Gulf Coast in their regular season finale Sunday at 10 a.m.
MEN'S RECAP
The Rattlers (9-10) swept all three doubles matches for a 1-0 lead, then quickly took three singles matches for the victory. B-CU's Leonardo Lima, one of two seniors honored along with Kip Jackson, was leading his match when play was suspended.
It was B-CU's sixth consecutive loss.
WOMEN'S RECAP
Florida A&M (6-12,3-3) had just tied the match at 3-3 seconds before Gaby Chinchilla, the last Lady Wildcat on the court, served match point to win her No. 3 singles match to give B-CU the victory.
The Lady Wildcats took the doubles point by sweeping the three doubles matches, then got a No. 1 singles win from Chinatsu Kajiwar and a No. 2 singles victory from Shereen Peterson-Paul in singles play.
Peterson-Paul and Laura Rodriguez were honored at Senior Day prior to the match.
