DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman placed five players – three women and two men – on the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference All-Conference tennis team, it was announced Thursday.
Gaby Chinchilla, Chinatsu Kajiwara and Shereen Peterson-Paul were named to women's All-Conference second while Leonardo Lima and Santiago Lobelo garnered second-team berths on the men's side.
This is third all-conference berth for Peterson-Paul, a senior, and second for Kajiwara, a sophomore.
Chinchilla, a sophomore, sported a team-best 15-7 singles mark, followed by Peterson-Paul at 13-6 for the Lady Wildcats this season. Chinchilla and Chinatsu Kajiwara were 10-5 as a doubles tandem, while Peterson registered 12 doubles victories with four different partners.
Lima, a senior, had a team-high 14-8 mark in singles play on the men's side, while Lobelo posted 11 singles victories, respectively and combined with Diego Garavito combined for a 16-9 doubles record.
In addition, Bethune-Cookman had six players receive All-Academic honors from the MEAC for 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average.
Peterson-Paul and Kajiwara were recognized, along with Kip Jackson, Moritz Pronath, Gilbert Rotich and Laura Rodriguez.
Bethune-Cookman's tennis teams open Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament play Friday morning at the Millbrook Tennis Center.
The Lady Wildcats (14-11) will meet Howard (6-6) for the second straight in the quarterfinals at 8:30 a.m., while the Wildcat men (12-15) meet MorganState (5-16) at noon.
