The current Study Hall Policy is a reflection of both research and knowledge of Best Practices in the area of Study Hall development and operation. Study Hall serves as an integral tool in the student-athletes academic success providing a designated study time as well as being the primary location of tutoring services.
Each summer, the OSAS meets with each head coach to determine the best Study Hall strategy for his/her team. The primary location of Study Hall is the OSAS. Additional study halls are operated within each sports office areas as needed. Open Study Hall operates each week day from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm and on Sunday from 1 pm until 4 pm. Team study halls operate Sundays from 4 pm until 8 pm and on Monday thru Thursday from 6 pm until 10 pm. Study halls are monitored by staff members of the OSAS. Student-athletes on 5th year aide are also utilized to monitor and assist student-athletes in study halls. Designated tutors are employed to provide academic assistance during study halls. In addition, staff members of the OSAS provide academic assistance to the student-athletes in appropriate areas during this time.
Study Hall is open to all student-athletes. The frequency mandated for student-athletes is based on academic and matriculation criteria. Freshmen, sophomore, junior college transfer students, and all returning student-athletes who have a cumulative grade point average below 3.0 are required to complete 4 hrs of study hall each week. In addition to these four hours, each head coach has the authority to require additional study hall hours. Attendance is taken at each study hall and absences are reported to each head coach to ensure that student-athletes are taking full advantage of this service.
