DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman football Head Coach Brian Jenkins said last year that going against North Carolina A&T running back Mike Mayhew is like going up against NFL great Marshall Faulk. A year later, Jenkins hasn't shied from that opinion.

"I'll stand on the top of Mt. Everest and say it again," Jenkins told listeners during Tuesday's Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference coaches' call. "That kid [Mayhew] is as good a football player as I've ever seen.

"He is just like Marshall Faulk," Jenkins added. "He runs hard; he runs tough inside or outside. Look at his stats. The proof is in his numbers. We better be prepared or he'll eat us alive."

Mayhew ran for 211 yards against B-CU in 2010 and gained 117 yards in last year's contest.

Though the Wildcats defense registered seven turnovers in last week's 38-26 win at Hampton, B-CU did give up 205 yards on the ground to Pirates running back Jeremiah Schwartz, and 536 yards of total offense.

"Hampton's running back was tremendous," Jenkins said. "Anytime you put 500 yards on anybody, you have some good things going and Hampton proved that against a good defense."

Despite leading the nation in turnover margin, Jenkins still considers his defense a work in progress.

"We can't pat ourselves on the back because we're giving up a lot of yards and a lot of early points," Jenkins said. "We are still doing a good job of finding a way to create turnovers."

B-CU hosts the Aggies for Homecoming Saturday at 4 p.m.
