DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Bethune-Cookman football team has just added further national recognition for their efforts under Head Coach Brian Jenkins, with a feature story in the Fall 2012 issue of NCAA Champion Magazine; the first appearance for the B-CU Wildcats in the magazine.

The spotlight from the official publication of the governing body focuses on the improvements of the Wildcats' program under Jenkins not only on the field, but in the classroom, as a team that recently received an award for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's Most Improved Academic Progress Rate (APR) from the Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association.

“It speaks volumes about our progam, our administration and our university. Although they've probably narrowed it down to make me as the subject of it all, it's still bigger than that,” said Jenkins. “It shows that Bethune-Cookman is truly more than a school that strives [for success] in athletics; it's a school that strives [for success] on academics as well.”

Published quarterly by the NCAA, the magazine focuses on the most important issues facing intercollegiate athletics, with emphasis on the most relevant achievements and stories in the NCAA today.

This feature highlighted the Wildcats' dramatic improvement in both team GPA and number of Academic All-MEAC student-athletes, in addition to the rise of the team's NCAA APR score since the arrival of the third-year head coach, Jenkins, who also has led the Wildcats to success on the field with a 25-7 record since 2010.

 “As a coach, I can continue to come to work every day with my head held high knowing that the people who work with me, and the administration that I work for, all of us are on the same page,” Jenkins said. “That's continuing to push our student-athletes to a high level academically, and continue to achieve at a high level.”
