Jacksonville, Fla. - The 2012-13 Bethune-Cookman Lady Wildcats are out on their
first road trip of the year, traveling up the first coast to face Jacksonville,
taking on the Dolphins at 7 p.m. in JU's Swisher Gymnasium. B-CU is looking to
build chemistry and maintain the consistency that has been shown in early slate
by this team, composed of five returnees and eight newcomers.
About the Lady Wildcats
Fifth-year Head Coach Vanessa Blair
led the Lady Wildcats to a 1-0 record to open the season, after a commanding 84-41
victory over Trinity Baptist, Friday at Moore Gymnasium.
Thus far this season, the Lady
Wildcats have been led in scoring by junior college transfer Chastity
René Taylor, who scored 23 on the TBC Eagles in 23 minutes on the
court, after putting up 21 in the exhibition game against Tampa. In game one,
Taylor shot 5-of-12 from the perimeter and 52.9 percent from the field.
Top-scoring returner Amanda Hairston
also came up big against the Eagles, shooting 10-of-14 from the field for 21
points and nine rebounds, despite coming off the bench. She now appears fully
recovered from her 2010-11 ACL injury, and her physical inside presence will
likely be a huge factor in the outcome against the Dolphins.
Also hitting the glass hard for the
Lady Wildcats was transfer forward Terrenisha Hollis, who led B-CU with 10, in
addition to four steals and two assists.
About the Jacksonville University
Dolphins
Coached by ninth-year Head Coach
Jill Dunn, the Dolphins took a hit in the season opener, falling to fellow MEAC
member, Florida A&M, 72-69 at Swisher Gym. JU surrendered 25 turnovers to
the Lady Rattlers, and only shot 37.5 percent from the floor.
Despite holding a 12-rebound lead
over FAMU, the Lady Rattlers' 17 steals proved to be a kill stroke, as FAMU
pushed into takeover position in the final 10 minutes and claimed control at
the 1:27 mark for the win.
The Dolphins are a team in
transition, but they logged three players in double figures in the opener, led
by junior college (Santa Fe) transfer Stephanie Edwards, who had 17 in addition
to seven boards. Also hitting the double-digit mark were returners center
Madison Scott and forward Jade Cargill, with 15 and 13, respectively. Though JU
spread the rebounds around well against FAMU, Cargill led the contest with
eight, including seven on the defensive glass.
