Men's Basketball Gameday: Nebraska-Omaha

VALPARAISO, Ind. ? Bethune-Cookman concludes its six-game season opening road trip this weekend as the Joe Cipriano Nebraska Classic takes to the Wildcats to Indiana for a four-team tournament at Valparaiso.

SET-UP: B-CU (1-3) will face Nebraska-Omaha Friday at 5:30 p.m. EST Friday.  Chicago State and Valparaiso meet afterwards. Winners meet at 8 p.m. Saturday with the consolation preceding at 5:30 p.m.

B-CU UPDATE: Despite sinking 13 three-pointers and shooting a season-high 48 percent from the field, the Wildcats dropped a 69-68 decision to Kent State Tuesday. The Golden Flashes hit the game-winner with 1.3 seconds left. Adrien Coleman and Kevin Dukes have been in double figures all four games, with Paul Scotland reaching double figures the past two games.

DUKES COUNTDOWN: Dukes needs 12 three-pointers to surpass Freddie Cole as B-CU's all-time leader for three-points made. Cole connected on 214.

ABOUT NEBRASKA-OMAHA  (1-4):  John Karhoff leads the Mavericks with averages of 11.2 ppg and 4.0 rebounds. Justin Simmons and Alex Phillips averaged 10.6 ppg and 10.2 ppg, respectively.  Their last three road games have been against Texas Tech, Tulane and Nebraska.

ABOUT CHICAGO STATE (1-3):  Jeremy Robinson and Matt Ross are the two Cougars averaging double figures at 12.8 ppg and 12.5 ppg, respectively. Junior Quinton Pippen is the nephew of former Chicago Bull Scottie Pippen. Not surprising, Quinton wears No. 33.

ABOUT VALPARAISO (3-1): The Crusaders,  the defending Horizon League champs and veterans of eight NCAA appearances, beat Kent State on the road last Sunday. Kevin Van Wijk is averaging 16.3 ppg and is shooting 59.4 from the field.

BACK IN THE DAY: B-CU Head Coach Gravelle Craig has good memories of Valparaiso's Athletics-Recreation Center. In 1993, Craig hit the game-winning shot that gave Cleveland State a 75-73 win over the Crusaders.

NEXT UP: Home opener Tuesday against North Florida.
