ORLANDO, Fla. - The
Lady Wildcats (2-4) make the short Sunday trip to Orlando to take on the UCF
Knights (2-6) at UCF Arena. Both teams have seen challenges in the early season
and are coming off losses.
Notes on the UCF Knights
The
Knights are coming off a tough 62-59 loss to Charlotte and have accumulated six
losses to date, including four of the last five. For their losses, UCF has lost
by an average margin of 11.6 points (366-436), but the competition hasn't been
slight.
So
far this season, UCF is 1-2 at home but own a commanding lead in the overall
series between these schools, up 12-4 on the Lady Wildcats, including the last
four straight. B-CU's last victory came in December 2000 with a 63-61 overtime
victory under then-Head Coach Sandra Booker.
The
Wildcats and Knights share one opponent, North Florida, who UCF defeated
earlier in the month 53-41 in Orlando, while UNF was not only breaking in new
players but an entirely new offense. B-CU lost a nail biter to UNF, 56-55,
Wednesday in Jacksonville.
UCF
freshman upstart Briahanna Jackson leads the team with 17.1 points per game, in
addition to the threat she provides defensively, ranking 14th in the NCAA in
steals with 3.9 per game. Gevenia Carter is also among the UCF scoring leaders,
putting up 12.5 per game, and has scored in double figures in seven of eight
games. Junior Erika Jones uses her 6-2 frame to top the Knights on the boards,
but rebounds are distributed across the lineup.
The
Knights score just 60 points per game as a team, while the Wildcats have been
successful at holding down opponents scoring, which leads into the B-CU style
of play.
Notes
on the Lady Wildcats
The
Lady Wildcats are on a three-game losing skid, dropping the last two by a
combined six points. B-CU is led by Chastity René Taylor, who tops the team
with 16 points per game, including a season total of 18 three-pointers and team-best
15 steals.
On
the inside, Amanda Hairston is making her presence known, scoring 13 points to
go with her team-leading 8.3 rebounds per game. She ranks 30th in the NCAA in
blocked shots, with 2.2 per game, and is up against a Knights team that allows
five per game. Getting the ball inside will be a major factor in the execution
of B-CU's game against the Knights, as she ranks 10th in the nation in field
goal percentage (.635) and points in the paint is a major component in B-CU's
control of the game.
