ORLANDO,
Fla. - Another slow start hampered the Lady Wildcats with a 9-0
deficit from which they never fully recovered on Sunday's 64-46 loss at Central
Florida, with scoring droughts and turnovers keeping B-CU out of range despite
charges to get back into the game.
B-CU (2-5) went scoreless for the first four minutes
before a Taylor Houston three-pointer put B-CU on the board at 15:53. The 'Cats
kept pace with the knights once they got moving, but UCF (3-6) took advantage
of another scoring drought to extend the halftime lead to 35-18.
The Lady Wildcats granted the Knights too many
opportunities, with 21 turnovers at half.
"It's tough to get into anything or to settle your team
down when you turn the ball over like that," Head Coach Vanessa Blair said.
UCF grew their lead into the second half to as many as
20, but just beyond the midpoint, the Lady Wildcats began to claw their way
back, pressuring the Knights into turnovers with a full court press and a very aggressive
trap, bringing the deficit to 11 with 8:29 to play.
That push was halted by over seven minutes without a
score for B-CU, providing the window for UCF to rebuild their lead en route to
a 64-43 win.
"It continues to be our Achilles' heel to have slow
starts," Blair said. "It's tough to come back from that deficit."
"We're just trying to get our girls to match energy at
the end of the game with energy at the beginning of the game and not dig
ourselves a hole," Blair concluded.
Terrenisha Hollis led all Lady Wildcats scorers with 11,
the only B-CU player to make double figures. Amanda Hairston logged nine with a
team-best eight rebounds, two steals, a pair of assists and a block.
The Lady Wildcats have a few days to wrap up the
semester in the classroom, with finals upcoming, before retaking the court on
December 11 against Edward Waters at Richard V. Moore Gymnasium. The Tigers are
coached by former B-CU assistant Charmaine Wilson, in her second year.
