DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Coming off a nine-day break from
the court for finals, the Lady Wildcats (2-5) are back in the race and looking
to snap a four-game losing with Tuesday evening's matchup against Edward Waters
(4-4) at historic Richard V. Moore Gymnasium.
Notes on the Lady Wildcats
Bethune-Cookman has shown some great potential and highs
this season, but have had struggles with digging out of early-allowed deficits,
making numerous comebacks on matching or outscoring opponents after halftime.
The key ultimately for victory is to avoid separation early in the game.
Upstart Chastity René Taylor has led the team in the
early going, scoring in double figures in five of her seven games as a Lady
Wildcat. She carries a team-high 14 PPG average, having hit 18 three-pointers,
and leads the team also with 17 steals.
Amanda Hairston also has proven to be a force in the
first third of the season, putting up 12.4 points of her own per game, while
also leading the team with 8.3 rebounds per game. Defensively, she will prove
to be tough for the Edward Waters Tigers, having posted 14 blocks and 12 steals
so far this season.
Notes on the Edward Waters Tigers
At 4-4, the Tigers will provide a solid opponent for the
Lady Wildcats to work back into the flow, featuring a pair of familiar faces.
Former Bethune-Cookman Assistant Coach Charmaine Wilson heads the Tigers in her
second year, after finishing 10-22 in her inaugural season. Joining her is
departed B-CU guard-turned-forward Amber Antoine.
Antoine is a solid leader for EWC on defense and on the
glass, ranking third in NAIA Division I with 12.3 rebounds per game and fourth
in steals per game (3.9). She is third among four Tigers averaging in double
figures with 12.9 PPG.
Tiffany Tolbert leads the EWC scorers, putting up 16.6
points per game, aided by her 24th-ranked (Divisionally) 2.4 three-pointers per
game. Center Daphne Walker joins her as a notable scorer, averaging 16 points,
while also grabbing 8.4 rebounds.
