DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Bethune-Cookman's Alex Smith was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference men's basketball defensive player of the week for the second straight week, it was announced Monday.
The 6-foot-7 senior scored 10 points, pulled down 10 rebounds, blocked seven shots and collected six steals in Saturday's 79-63 loss at LSU.
The seven blocked shots tied him for the third-best single-total in school history and was the most in a game since Delvin Thomas had seven against Florida A&M on 2/26/99. He now has 32 blocks for the season after registering four in a 74-72 loss at FIU.
The six steals put in him in an eight-way tie for sixth in that single-game category.
For the season, Smith is averaging 8.9 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.
The Wildcats (5-10) host North Carolina A&T in their MEAC home opener Saturday at 4 p.m.
