Men's Tennis Opens Against Hurricanes, Seminoles

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The Bethune-Cookman men's tennis team has a daunting opening weekend for its 2013 spring schedule: Miami and Florida State.

Coming off a 14-14 last season, the Wildcats face the 65th ranked Hurricanes on neutral grounds at the University of Florida Saturday, then trek to Tallahassee to face the 32nd ranked Seminoles Monday afternoon.

"You want to provide your players an opportunity to play against the best," said second-year coach Tim Pleasant. "Facing Miami and FSU back-to-back is as big as you can get. The guys are looking forward to the opportunity."

WHO TO WATCH:

Moritz Pronath: The sophomore got off to a 10-3 start and was 11-7 when a broken finger ended his 2012 spring season early. He returned to action this fall and won the "C" at the HBCU National tournament.

"He can be a breakout performer," Pleasant said of Pronath. "His game is deceiving."

Diego Garavito: The sophomore was 8-12 overall, but was 5-3 in play at No. 4 singles and 12-10 and doubles plays.

"I'm looking forward to seeing what Diego can do," Pleasant said. "There are some expectations."

Juan Varon and Seve Day: Varon was named to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference second team last season, but emerged with Day as a dominant doubles team during the fall with two tournament championship and a seven-match winning streak.

Home Opener: Feb. 1 vs. Palm Beach Atlantic.
