LAUREL, Md. - The 19th-ranked Bethune-Cookman bowling team went unblemished on Saturday with the Wildcats rolling their way to a 5-0 mark on the second day of the Frederick E. Underwood Tournament inside the AMF Laurel Lanes in Maryland. Bowie State University is serving as host of this weekend's event.

Bethune-Cookman head coach Tony O'Neal was eager to see his team's performance this weekend after a month to prepare. He knew coming in the Wildcats were ready, and their current tournament-leading 9-1 record throughout the first two days is exactly what he was looking forward to seeing.

"I'm excited about how we bowled today and throughout this weekend," stated O'Neal. "I am happy that we bowled well today, and now we are in a position to make a run for the championship on Sunday."

The Wildcats claimed wins against Chowan, Lincoln (Pa.), North Carolina A&T, Virginia State and Salem International on Saturday as they took part in traditional games leading into Sunday's bracket format. Friday's games were bowled in quad baker format with B-CU staking a 4-1 mark.

In Saturday's victory against MEAC foe North Carolina A&T, the Cats rolled 1,106 as a team - an average of 200-plus for all five bowlers in maroon and gold.

For their efforts in Saturday's competition, B-CU's Staci Hilliard and Rachel Moore were each named to the all-tournament team, while Rebecca Gomez - playing in her first tournament as a Wildcat - joined Felicia Baker in finishing amongst the top 20 bowlers in the field.

Bethune-Cookman trails fourth-ranked Sam Houston State in total pin count, with the Bearkats holding the top seed heading into Sunday with a pin count of 8,942. B-CU is second with 8,707 total pins.

Rachel Moore finished with high games of 255 and 257 for the Wildcats, while teammate Staci Hilliard registered games of 214 and 227, respectively. Gomez recorded a game of 231 and Baker had a 201 in the second contest of the day. Also having a strong day with a 235-game was Natalee Armstrong, continuing the Wildcats' 200-plus performers on the afternoon.

"I'm real pleased with the mental growth of the team this weekend," continued O'Neal.

B-CU will take on Sam Houston State in tomorrow's opening game, with winner automatically advancing to the title match later in the day. The loser of that contest will have the chance to make it to the championship match, but will be forced to defeat another team in the process.

Action continues back at the AMF Lanes in Laurel beginning at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
