SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Lady Wildcats (7-9, 2-2 MEAC) are in
game two of their brief road swing, still seeking the elusive first road win as
they take on the Savannah State Lady Tigers (6-12, 1-4 MEAC) Monday at Tiger
Arena with a 4 p.m. tipoff, for SSU's Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration.
About the Savannah State Lady Tigers
The Lady Tigers have offensively capable players, but
with early January, season-ending injury to leading scorer Ezinne Kalu, the
weight of the scoring has fallen to senior forward Erin Hogue, who has
collected seven double-doubles on the season, including hitting the mark in
four consecutive games. A two-time MEAC Defensive Player of the Week, Hogue
averages 11.4 points and 9.0 rebounds per game, along with 1.2 steals.
Andrietta Thomas has also had an offensive impact from
the guard position, scoring 10.0 points with 4.4 rebounds and 0.8 steals per
game. However, she is not expected to start, leaving the opening duties to
Jasmine Norman (5.5 PPG, 3.6 RPG), who leads active players in steals (1.6), and
Blessing Uba (4.7 PPG, 2.2 RPG, 1.4 SPG).
The Lady Tigers have turnover challenges (19.3 TOPG),
but have not been highly successful at getting the ball back, stealing just 9.8
times per game and blocking 2.8 shots per outing.
SSU opponents score an average of 64.6 points per
contest, creating a -11.1 scoring margin for the Lady Tigers, who score 53.5
PPG, and have dropped six of the last seven.
About the Lady Wildcats
The Lady Wildcats look to bounce back from their lowest
scoring output of the season, at South Carolina State, working to capture the
energy and defense from the first half against the Lady Bulldogs in facing the
Lady Tigers.
Top scorers Chastity René Taylor (14.4 PPG, 2.2 RPG, 1.8
SPG) and Amanda Hairston (9.9 PPG, 7.0 RPG, 1.4 BPG) were limited against the
Lady Bulldogs to eight and five points, respectively. Jasmine Evans stepped
into the leadership role, scoring 10 points to lead the team.
Terrenisha Hollis has been solid for B-CU the past few
games, but also was limited to just six against SCSU with a pair of blocks and
a pair of steals. Averaging 8.3 PPG and 5.0 RPG, getting her game on track will
give the Lady Wildcats a boost against the Lady Tigers.
The top goal in taking on SSU will be to keep turnovers
minimized. Giveaways have been a factor in each loss this season, especially in
Saturday's contest at SCSU (23 TO), while only taking the ball away from the Lady
Bulldogs just eight times.
