ARLINGTON,
Texas
- Ranked No. 19 in the NTCA poll, the Bethune-Cookman University bowling team
captured a ninth place finish Sunday at the Prairie View A&M Invitational
held at the state-of-the-art Bowling
International Training and Research Center in Arlington, Texas.
Bethune-Cookman entered the
bracket portion on Sunday, the final day of the three-day event, looking for
momentum after a successful team meeting following Saturday's Traditional games
session.
The Wildcats opened the day
with a heartbreaking seven-game setback to Valparaiso. But the Cats bounced
back nicely to capture back-to-back wins against two ranked opponents in the form of No. 13 Stephen F. Austin (4-2)
and No. 20 Alabama State, respectively.
"I'm proud of the way we
were able to bounce back after two tough days of bowling and a rough weekend,
and show the ability to bowl together as a team and collect two good wins to
end the tournament," said B-CU head coach Tony O'Neal.
Felicia Baker helped the
Cats out Sunday with solid bowling, while Rachel Moore was Saturday's top
bowler, followed by senior Staci Hilliard. B-CU ended the weekend with a 2-11
overall record.
Sixth-ranked Nebraska
captured this year's Prairie View A&M Invitational title, while fellow MEAC
member and No. 2 ranked Maryland Eastern Shore finished second.
Bethune-Cookman will get
back to the action Feb. 8 when they travel to the Capital Classic in Dover,
Delaware.
