NORFOLK, Va. - The Bethune-Cookman Wildcats earned their
first weekly conference honors of the indoor track & field season, with the
naming this week of Ricy Brown as the MEAC Indoor Track Performer of the Week
by officials from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).
Brown shined bright for the Wildcats last week at the
Armory Collegiate Invitational in New York, the largest competition of B-CU's
indoor season, facing some of the best athletes from 100 campuses coast to
coast. A sophomore, Brown finished first overall in the 800m Run, with a time
of 1:53.51, running the sixth fastest time in the MEAC this season. For the
win, he overtook runners from Shippensburg, Kansas, Clemson and VCU.
Joining Brown in conference honors this week, Norfolk
State's Jamarian Bates and Coppin State's Alexis Easterling were named Men's and
Women's Field Athletes of the Week, while Norfolk State's Torie Cunnigham and Coppin State's Melissa Caddle were named Co-Women's
Track Athletes of the Week.
The Wildcats are currently in preparation mode, with
their sights set on the MEAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, Feb. 14-16
at the Prince George's County Sports Complex in Landover, Md. In last year's Indoor
Championships, both the men's and women's teams ranked eighth in the final
rankings.
