DELAND, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman heads to nearby DeLand for
this weekend's Hatter Classic and three games with Dartmouth and two with host Stetson.
The Wildcats (1-8) will face Dartmouth (0-0) Friday and
Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and again on Sunday at noon. Stetson (2-5) and B-CU
resume the Volusia County rivalry with 6:30 meetings on Friday and Saturday at
6:30 p.m.
Florida A&M also is in town, but the two Mid-Eastern
Athletic Conference teams don't meet.
B-CU UPDATE: The Wildcats went 1-4 in last week's
Jacksonville University Invitational, but that win was a 4-3 decision over Ohio
State, the program's first victory over a Big 10 team since 2009. Simone Ceasar
leads the team with a .296 average while Shamaria Engram and Kelsey Rodney each
have three RBI ... Six of B-CU's eight losses have been by two runs or less ...
Calesha Shelley has a three-game hitting streak going and has reached base in
the last four.
ABOUT DARTMOUTH: This is opening weekend for the Big Green,
who finished 14-25 and second in the Ivy League's Northern Division in 2012. Kristen Rumley who led the team with a .355 average while Kara Curosh (.281) pace the returners.
ABOUT STETSON: Stetson went 1-3 at the UCF Holiday
Inn Select Tournament last weekend. The Hatters also have a Big 10 win to their
credit, downing Michigan in their opening weekend tournament two weeks ago. Chelsea Whalley is batting
.333 with a team-high eight RBI.
