CHARLESTON,
S.C. - The Bethune-Cookman
Men's Golf team sits tied for sixth place alongside Fairleigh Dickinson after
the opening day of the Charleston Shootout at The Links at Stono Ferry. Play was
suspended midway through the second round of Monday's originally scheduled 54-holes
due to darkness.
Freshman Leon Fricker
leads the pack for Bethune-Cookman after firing an even-par, 72 in the opening
round. For the tournament, the Ivybridge, England native is tied for sixth place
at one-under.
In his opening round, Fricker
shot three birdies on the back nine which included holes 10, 14 and 18. In the
second round, he recorded birdies on holes 10, 13, 15 and 18, but collected a
bogey on the first hole during his back nine stretch. He will resume play on Tuesday
with the fourth tee, still needing to play six holes to conclude the round.
Also playing well on
Monday for the Wildcats was Emmanuel Petrich. Petrich, a junior from Grand
Blanc, Mich., is tied for 19th in the field after firing a three-over,
75 during first round play. He followed that with an even round through the
first 12 holes of his second round. He'll conclude his final six holes on
Tuesday morning beginning on the seventh tee.
JaMichael Jones (+7),
Ryan Fricker (+10) and Matthew McKnight (+20) round out the B-CU lineup.
Participating as an
individual, senior Alex Clapp fired an 81 in his opening round, and is
three-over during his second round after 12 holes complete.
Second round action
for the Charleston Shootout continues Tuesday at 8 a.m., followed by the third and
final round.
