TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman's Ryan Fricker fired a second round 74 (+2) on Friday, keeping him ninth in the individual field at the NCAA Tallahassee (Fla.) Regional hosted by Florida State. The 54-hole event runs through Saturday at the Golden Eagles Country Club, and admission to the event is free.
Fricker, a freshman from Ivybridge, England, fired a three-over par 75 on Thursday, followed by Friday's two-over 74. That gives the Englishman a 149 heading into the final round. He sits just nine shots out of third place going into Saturday's final 18 holes.
Daniel Walker of Richmond leads the individual field with a two-day score of 135 (-9), followed in order by Richard Fountain of Davidson (-5, 139), as well as Maverick Antcliff of Augusta State and Edward Figueroa each tied at third with 140 (-4) scores.
Fricker leads Sean Bosdosh of Maryland by four strokes, and trails Trey Rule of Mercer by a single shot.
North Florida continues to lead the team portion of the event, firing a 277 on Friday to give the Ospreys a total score of 549. Washington (551) sits second, followed by Florida State (553) in third.
The top golfer overall for the tournament is MJ Maguire (UNF) with a two-day score of 133 (-11), followed by a host of players – Cheng-Tsung Pan (Washington) and Chase Seiffert (USF) – each securing a 134 (-10). Richard James (USF) and Daniel Walker (Richmond) are tied for fourth with a 135 (-9).
Thirteen teams and 10 individuals not on those teams are competing at each of three regionals while the other three regionals have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals.
A total of 81 teams make up the regional field along with 45 individuals. Five teams and the top individual advance to the National Championship at The Capital City Club's Crabapple Course in Atlanta, from May 28-June 2.
