Elliott Returns To B-CU As Basketball GA

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman University Head Basketball Coach Gravelle Craig today announced the appointment of former Wildcats standout Stanley Elliott as a Graduate Assistant Coach.

Elliott, a native of Newark, N.J., was a four-year starter for the Wildcats and graduated in 2012 as the first player since the program elevated to Division I in 1980 to enjoy a winning record in each of his four seasons with Bethune-Cookman, registering 73 victories in all.

During his time at B-CU, the Cats won their first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) regular championship (2011); played in their first post-season game (2011 NIT); and appeared in the MEAC conference tournament championship game for the first time in school history (2012).

A complete role player, Elliott finished ninth on the all-time steals list. His defensive-oriented career is best remembered for the defensive charge he took in the 2012 MEAC Tournament Quarterfinal game against North Carolina Central that set the stage for the Wildcats' game-winning shot with 5.9 seconds remaining for a 60-59 victory.

“We're excited to have Stanley back in the program, and it's a great addition to our staff,” Craig said. “This will be an excellent transition for him going from player to coaching staff. He was always able to make the most of his opportunities both on the court and in the classroom, and I think that's he going to make a big difference with some of the younger players that we're bringing in.”

A Mass Communications major, Elliott was named the 2011 B-CU Male Athlete of the Year.

Elliott will assist in the day-to-day operation of the men's basketball program, handling administrative duties as well as practice and gameday responsibilities.

The Wildcats advanced to the MEAC tournament semifinals for the third consecutive season in 2012-13,  stunning defending champion Norfolk State in the quarterfinals before falling to Morgan State.
