B-CU Softball Adds Pitcher/Catcher Gale
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman Head Softball Coach Chris Cochran announced today (August 10, 2012) that pitcher/catcher Sam Gale has joined the three-time defending Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference champion Wildcats.
Gale comes to B-CU after one season at Florida Southern College, where she hit .261 with one home run and 11 RBI in 46 games. Gale also saw time pitching, making ten appearances and compiling a 1-2 record with a 2.76 ERA.
At Clermont HS, Gale was a four-year starter with a career record of 56-25 with a 1.29 ERA and 604 strikeouts against 95 walks in 499.1 innings. In her senior season, Gale hit a team-best .493 with a .542 on-base percentage, 12 doubles, two triples and 14 RBI as she earned District 4A-10 player of the year honors.
Her travel team experience includes a 2009 FAST national championship as a member of the Tampa Heatwave.
"We're excited to have Sam here," Cochran said. "She will provide depth to our pitching staff. And the fact that she can play the catching position is an added bonus. She also has a year of college experience which is always beneficial."
B-CU posted a 30-31 record last season after a 6-20 start, finishing with a four-game undefeated run through the MEAC tournament and an NCAA regional appearance in College Station, Tex.
