B-CU Advances Four To HBCU Nationals Finals

ATLANTA -- Bethune-Cookman will have representatives in at least three singles and one doubles finals in the HBCU Nationals tennis tournament Saturday.

Moritz Pronath, Chinatsu Kajiwara, Shereen Peterson-Paul and the doubles combo of Seve Day and Juan Varon won their semifinals matched Friday.

Pronath downed North Carolina Central's Jamal Hoyte 6-1,6-3 and Jonathan Dingle of Prairie View A&M 7-6, 6-2 to advance to the "C" flight finals, where he'll face Temuera Asafu-Adjaye of FAMU Saturday at 10 a.m.

Kajiwara blanked Southern's Demetria Woods 6-0,6-0 and will meet Delaware State's Ksenia Kozlova in the "A" flight final.

Peterson-Paul will take on Southern's Lois Alexis for the "B" flight title after beating Jayla Scott of North Carolina A&T 6-2,6-3.

Day and Varon face the Florida A&M combo of Takura Happy/Salif Kante in the Men's "A" finals. Day/Varon remained unbeaten in fall play by downing Kristen Powell/Craig Wiltz of Prairie View A&M 8-2.

Two other doubles squads, Pronath/Gilbert Kibet and Kajiwara/Gaby Chinchilla, have semifinals matches Saturday morning.
