Gardner Named To All MEAC 2nd Team Volleyball
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman's Krysta Gardner was named to the second team of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's All-Conference volleyball team, it was announced today. (November 15, 2012).
Entering Friday's MEAC tournament, the senior from Ashburn, Va., was seventh in the conference in kills per set (3.37) and fifth in service aces (0.44), in which she was also ranked 18th nationally. She is also fifth in points scored per set (4.04).
Gardner became B-CU's all-time leader in three categories this season - kills (1,185 as 11/15/12), attempts (3,387) and service aces (134). She's the second player in program history to register 1,000 kills in her career.
With her first-team selection in 2011, Gardner becomes the first player in program history to garner All-MEAC honors in consecutive years. Only one other B-CU player (Racquel McZeal with a first team berth in 1993 and second team selection in 1995) has had multiple recognitions.
In addition, Gardner was also named to the MEAC All-Academic team for volleyball and was joined by teammates Aubrianna Curtis, a sophomore from Clarkston, Mich., and junior Jennifer Jimenez from Merritt Island, Fla.
B-CU will face UMES in the MEAC tournament opening round Friday at 1 p.m. in Baltimore.
