Wildcats Garner 29 Top Finishes at USC Indoor Open

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Wildcats return from their first midweek meet with nearly 30 top-10 finishes at the USC Indoor Open #2, Wednesday at the USC Indoor Complex. The field event and sprint corps took capitalized on expanded entry lists and produced a strong all-around showing.

Desiree Richardson led the pack with a win in the shot put, throwing a distance of 12.85m (42-02.00 ft.). Richardson also hit a season-best mark of 13.52m (44-04.25 ft.) in the weight throw to finish second. On the men's side, Barry Kimbrough came in second in the men's shot with distance of 14.09m (46-02.75 ft.) Alana Rivera finished fifth in the women's shot with a mark of 11.75m (38-06.75 ft.).

Tristie Johnson topped her personal record from last weekend in the 55m, winning the event with a 7.07 second race. Shakira Garner (7.16), Breonca Reid (7.24) and Keyona Thomas (7.25) finished sixth through eighth in the event.

In the men's 55m, Angelo Cabrera and Tremayne Banks finished second and third with times of 6.46 and 6.49, respectively, both earning season marks.

Keron Stoute topped his season-best mark in the high jump, earning his second straight win with a height of 2.05m (6-08.75 ft.). In the women's jump, Deidra Jordan and Juliette Hyppolite hit a height of
1.60m (5-03.00 ft.) to tie for second, while Rayanna Johnson was eighth at 1.45m (4-09.00 ft.).

Sasha Smallwood hit a height of 3.35m (10-11.75 ft.) to finish second in the women's pole vault. On the men's side, B-CU claimed six of the top 10 finishes, led by Ashton Boston, who came in third with a height of 3.95m (12-11.50 ft.). Nnamdi Davis and Curtis Riggins tied at fourth at 3.80m (12-05.50 ft.), with Pierre Strother coming in sixth (3.65m/11-11.75 ft.), Martin Embry III seventh (3.50m/11-05.75 ft.) and Stoute 10th (3.02m/9-10.75 ft.).

In the men's 55m hurdles, Junior Saint Preux made his B-CU debut with a 7.55 second race for third place, just ahead of Banks in fifth with a time of 7.66. D.J. Howard finished 10th overall in the preliminaries with a time of 7.85. On the women's side, Rayanna Johnson ran a time of 8.85 for sixth place, while Jordan (9.33) and Raven Thomas (9.40) finished ninth and 10th in the preliminaries.

This was the first of two meets set for the week, with the Wildcats returning to the Stephen C. O'Connell Center in Gainesville, for the Jimmy Carnes Invitational on Saturday and Sunday (Jan. 26-27).
