Chris Biocic Named MEAC Rookie of the Week

NORFOLK, Va. - Bethune-Cookman freshman catcher Chris Biocic proved to be an important part of the Wildcats' success over the weekend at No. 16 Arizona State, making his debut in Maroon and Gold in two starts for the Wildcats. For his performance, the Merritt Island, Fla. native earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week honors, officials from the MEAC office announced on Wednesday.

Biocic (6-4, 210) hit .429 to lead the Wildcats with one triple and an RBI in two games for the Wildcats. In his first NCAA Division I game against ASU, Biocic batted .500 (2-for-4) with an RBI, one assist and eight putouts. Defensively, he added 17 total putouts against the Sun Devils during the two-game span.

This is the first week of eligibility for conference honors recognition in the 2013 seaosn.

The Wildcats took on FIU at Jackie Robinson on Wednesday afternoon, winning 1-0, with Biocic bringing in the lone RBI of the contest. He is among the team leaders with a .333 batting average.

Bethune-Cookman (2-3) travels to Macon, Ga. this weekend for a three game series with Mercer (3-1) at MU's Claude Smith Field. Games will run Friday to Sunday with first pitches set at 4 p.m., 2 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
