Notes About the Central Michigan Chippewas (3-7)
Playing all of their games in the south to this point, it hardly seems like the Chippewas have been able to evade wintry conditions while fighting for wins in the early going. After earning a win over Stetson in the Hatters' Bright House Tournament, CMU is on a two-game losing skid with consecutive losses to UConn and Ohio State.
The Chippewas are a steady hitting team with solid run production, but have been outscored three-to-two by opponents in the early season. They are led at the plate by sophomore outfielder Nick Regnier, who bats .310, topping the team with four doubles, two home runs, eight RBI and a .548 slugging percentage. Also in the lead pack, senior utility infielder Jordan Adams bats .286, chipping in six RBI. Sophomore Pat McKenzie has proven to be the run-earner, batting .273 with a team-high eight walks, with team-leading marks of a .442 on-base percentage and seven runs scored.
On the basepath, the Chippewas play aggressively, attempting 23 steals in just 10 games, with success in 19 attempts.
On the mound, CMU was using a similar pro-style four-man starting rotation to that which B-CU utilizes, with each going deep into games in the early season. However, B-CU will see a pair of first-time 2013 starters, including freshman Lehnert in his first collegiate start. Defensively, CMU has had some issues with errors, tallying 18 in 10 games.
Notes About the Wildcats (6-6)
The Wildcats are on a four-game winning streak on the homestand and have dug deep to work through adversity, but also have the talent to come up big when the situation demands it. Not to mention that the Wildcats will be putting two very strong starters on the hill, including Durapau, who is riding a 19-inning scoreless run.
At the plate, outfielder Josh Johnson has quickly moved to the head of the group since joining the starting lineup. He bats .375 on the season, topping the team with a .444 on-base percentage. After a big week at "The Jack", first baseman Anthony Stokes is batting .308 with four doubles and a .487 slugging percentage, while earning eight RBI. Outfielder Eros Modena has also been steady, batting .306 with five RBI. Third baseman Matt Noble had the biggest weekend in crucial situations both at the plate and in the field for the Wildcats, and currently leads the team in doubles (5) and RBI (10), batting .283.
