Softball Game Day: FAU Parents Weekend Tournament
BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Bethune-Cookman plays its final non-conference tournament of the season this weekend when it travels to Florida Atlantic for its Parents Weekend tournament beginning Friday.
The Wildcats (4-24) will face the host Owls (17-18) twice with other meetings against Iowa State (12-14) Friday, Dartmouth (8-6) Saturday and Elon (11-11) Sunday. B-CU faced Dartmouth earlier this season at the Hatter Classic, dropping two of three meetings.
B-CU opens the tournament with Iowa State Friday at 12:15 p.m.
B-CU UPDATE: Sophomore pitcher Samantha Gale, who picked her second win of the season Tuesday against Monmouth is eighth in the nation in walks allowed per game (0.77) while leadoff hitter Calesha Shelley is 54th in stolen bases per game (0.54). The sophomore has stolen 14 bases so far this year. Michelle Banuelos-Smith leads the Wildcats with a .342 average and also has the team high in doubles (seven), home runs (four) and RBI (14).
ABOUT FAU: The Owls are coming off a three-game Sun Belt conference series sweep of Middle Tennessee. Carnesha Thompson leads FAU with a .342 average.
ABOUT IOWA STATE: The Big 12 Cyclones are concluding a 10-day, 10-game Florida road swing. Sophomore Jorden Spendlove is hitting .325 with 22 RBI.
ABOUT DARTMOUTH: The Big Green has two .400 hitters -- Hillary Hubert (.436) and Morgan Wharton (.417). Hubert leads the team with 17 hits and 10 RBI.
ABOUT ELON: The Phoenix registered a win at No. 8 Georgia earlier this season. Five players are hitting .300 or better this season, led by Tomeka Watson’s .435 average.
