Wildcats Spring Practice Report: April 8
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman Football got back to the gridiron Monday afternoon, holding its 10th session of the 2013 spring practice period at the Wildcats Practice Fields on the B-CU campus. Monday marked the first practice since the second team scrimmage of the spring held Saturday morning.
Under the direction of head coach Brian Jenkins, recently completing his third season at the helm of the Wildcats program, Bethune-Cookman conducted 20 periods in Monday’s practice that spanned less than two hours. Temperatures were in the mid-to-upper 70s with winds of the NNW at five miles per hour with the team donning full pads.
Practice began with the defensive and offensive lines working separately, as the defensive backs and receivers went through drills simulating game-like speeds and conditions. Coach Jenkins then spent time personally taking charge with the special teams unit.
The day ended with four sessions of 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 action with the first and second teams going head-to-head on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball.
B-CU returns to the Wildcat Practice Fields on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
Bethune-Cookman’s 16 spring practices conclude with the annual Spring Showcase on Saturday, April 20. The game will be played at the New Smyrna Beach Sports Complex in New Smyrna Beach, Fla. The time is set for 2:30 p.m., and admission will be $1 with all proceeds benefitting the New Smyrna Beach Pop Warner League.
The first edition of the CatEye Network original series First Down aired Tuesday, April 2, going behind the scenes with the B-CU football team. The series will feature six episodes throughout the course of spring practice leading into and beyond the Spring Showcase on April 20.
