DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Calesha Shelley had three RBI Wednesday’s in Bethune-Cookman 5-4 nine-inning loss to UCF at Sunnyland Park.

Down 3-1 in the bottom of the seventh, the Wildcats (11-30) tied the game on Shelley’s two-out single to left that scored Breanna Chavez and Sophia Ortega.

UCF  (24-23) went ahead 5-3 in the top of the ninth, but B-CU mounted a rally as Ortega doubled, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on Shelley’s infield single to make it 5-4, but the Wildcats couldn’t manage the tying run.

Ortega had three hits on the day, including a leadoff home run to center field in the third that tied the game at 1-1.

Shelley had two hits on the day, as did Aurelia Gamch, who also drew two walks.

B-CU hosts North Carolina A&T this weekend for a key three-game Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference series. A doubleheader starts Saturday at 1 p.m. and a single game takes place Sunday at noon.

NOTES: Shelley and Kelsey Rodney each extended their hitting streak to 11 games … Ortega’s round-tripper was her second of the season … This was B-CU’s third extra- inning game of  the season, the Wildcats are now 1-2 in those games.
