Softball Stops Aggies 5-1; Game 2 Rained Out

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Calesha Shelley and Aurelia Gamch each had three hits as Bethune-Cookman defeated North Carolina A&T 5-1 in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Southern  Division game Saturday afternoon at  Sunnyland Park.

Game two of the scheduled doubleheader was suspended due to rain and will resume Sunday morning at 11 a.m. with North Carolina A&T (6-27 overall,4-6 MEAC)  leading 1-0 in the first inning. Game three of the series will follow immediately afterwards.

Simone Ceasar, Michelle Baneulos-Smith and Sophia Ortega had two apiece as the Wildcats (12-30 overall, 6-0 MEAC) remained unbeaten in league play.

B-CU took a 1-0 lead in the first on Banuelos-Smith’s two-out single that scored Ceasar. In the second, Shelley brought in Oretga on a triple down the right field and scored on an error to make it 3-0.

Kelsey Rodney scored on Oretga’s single in the fourth while Gamch scored on a Ceasar single in the fifth.

Shanel Tolbert picked up the win with a five-hitter. She struck out five.

Shelley extended her hitting streak to 12 games.
