DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman University’s Chris Cochran has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Softball Coach of the Year, it was announced today. [Thursday, May 9, 2013].
This is the second time in three years Cochran has garnered the award. She received the honor for the first time in 2011.
Cochran led the Wildcats to the 2013 MEAC Southern divisional title and number one seed in the MEAC championship with an 11-3 league mark. In her seventh season, Cochran has led Bethune-Cookman to three consecutive MEAC tournament titles (2010-2012) and NCAA post-season berths.
A centerfielder from Mission Hills, Calif., Banuelos Smith hit .333 with 12 doubles, seven home runs and 35 RBI this season. She was a first-team selection in 2011 and pre-season All-Conference selection this season.
Gamch, a shortstop from Madera, Calif., hit .329 with nine doubles, two home runs and 20 RBI. The 2010 MEAC Rookie Of The Year, Gamch has been named first or second team in each of her four season at B-CU.
The Wildcats are vying for the fourth consecutive MEAC tournament championship this weekend in Ormond Beach.
