B-CU Men Second on Day Two of PGA Minority Championship
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – Freshman Ryan Fricker shot a second round score of 75 on Saturday to lead the Bethune-Cookman men’s golf team at the 27th Annual PGA National Minority Golf Championships presented by Brown Capital Management at The PGA Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
After leading by 10 strokes following Friday’s first round play, Bethune-Cookman now trails Texas-Pan American by four strokes heading into Sunday’s championship round. The defending champion Broncs made up 14 strokes on the Wildcats, and used strong play from Kevin Kirakossian with a five-under 67 to erase the deficit.
The Wildcats currently own a two-day total of 589 for the tournament. Alabama State is in third place and nine shots off the lead.
B-CU leaned on Ryan Fricker once again as the Ivybridge, England native carded a three-over 75 to lead all Wildcats scorers on the round. Fricker now owns a two-day score of 144, and will tee off Sunday with the group of tournament leaders Kirakossian (UTPA), Francis Berthiaume (Alabama State) and James Stepp (Tennessee State) off the first tee at 9:09 a.m. on the Wanamaker Course.
Meanwhile, it was junior Emmanuel Petrich carding a day two score of 76, as well as classmate Matthew McKnight also posting a round of 76 for the Cats. Petrich holds a two-day score of 149, while Northern Ireland native McKnight owns a score of 148 after 36 holes.
Senior Alex Clapp of Somerset, England fired a 79 Saturday, giving him a two-day total of 156, and it was Leon Fricker turning in a card of 80. He now holds an overall score of 149 for the tournament.
As for individual play, JaMichael Jones carded a 78 Saturday to place him in the hunt for Sunday’s final round, as he now holds a two-day score of 155. Jones sits just seven strokes off the lead entering Championship Sunday.
