Justin Henderson Added to 2013 CFPA Award Watch List
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Bethune-Cookman University tight end Justin Henderson has been named to the watch list for the 2013 College Football Performance Award FCS Tight End Award. The preliminary watch list highlights thirty-two returning performers, vying for the top individual tight end award in the Football Championship Subdivision.
A transfer from the University of Memphis, Henderson entered Bethune-Cookman following the fall semester of 2012. He enrolled in time to participate in spring practices, and was an effective player in the B-CU Spring Showcase in April. He hauled in two catches on the day, including a one-yard touchdown strike in the second half on the arm of senior quarterback Jackie Wilson.
"Congratulations to Bethune-Cookman tight end Justin Henderson on earning a spot on the 2013 CFPA Watch List," said CFPA Executive Director Brad Smith. "After transferring from Memphis, one can reasonably expect Henderson to play a significant role in Bethune-Cookman's pursuit of a repeat MEAC title."
Henderson played sparingly for the Tigers in 2012, mostly in part due to injury, from which he has fully recovered. Mixed with a new coaching staff, the 6-2, 240-pound native of North Little Rock, Arkansas elected to transfer to Daytona Beach. He is expected to play as a senior in 2013 under head coach Brian Jenkins.
Throughout his career with Memphis, Henderson played in 23 games and made six starts. He caught 10 receptions for 108 yards and two touchdowns across three seasons. As a sophomore in 2011, he did not record a catch through the first seven games, only to bounce back and have at least one reception in Memphis’ last five contests.
Former Bethune-Cookman defensive end and current Jacksonville Jaguars player Ryan Davis earned the 2011 CFPA FCS National Defensive Performer of the Year Award.
Bethune-Cookman begins the 2013 campaign Sunday, Sept. 1, against Tennessee State in Nashville, Tenn.
