Wildcats Take on Second Meet at Bobby Lang Invitational
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Bethune-Cookman Wildcats take on their second meet of the 2013 cross country season this Saturday (Sept. 7) at the Bobby Lang Invitational, hosted by Florida A&M. After a hot start for the team’s leaders in week one, the staff looks to improve the scoring with some roster changes and new members.
Ricy Brown opened the season with an individual win at the JU Short Course Duals last week for the men, while Kirsten Taylor produced a significant time cut to finish third in the short course race.
“They understand that this is a season where we can really make some great progress, and they put in the work over the summer,” Head Coach Donald Cooper said. “One of the true challenges will be this weekend. This course is probably the toughest course throughout the season.”
The coaches for the squad to be challenged but rise to the occasion while facing a standard distance course, on varying elevations with an early morning start time, as opposed to what they saw in week one.
“It’s more of a challenging course for our runners,” Cooper said. “A lot of hilly areas over there at FAMU, and fans should be able to see the direction we’re going with our cross country program.”
Joining the squad for the meet will be first time this season will be newcomers Daniel Ketter and Chris Collins. Ketter is a transfer from Middle Tennessee State, where he gained solid experience and finished 22nd at the Sun Belt Championships last season. Collins has been on the campus for the past season and is now making his first appearance in cross country.
Saturday’s Bobby Lang Invitational is set for an early start, with the women getting underway at 9 a.m. on the campus of Florida A&M.
