@BCUVolleyball Registers First Win Of 2013
DELAND, Fla. -- Rhea Simon and Phylecia Armstrong each posted career-highs with 12 and 10 kills, respectively, as Bethune-Cookman posted its first win of the season with a 3-0 (25-16,25-14,25-13) victory over Savannah State at the Stetson Westin Classic Saturday morning.
The Lady Cats (1-4) literally cut their attack error total in half from 28 Friday against Stetson and .280 as a team for the straight-set victory.
Simon, a sophomore, also seven digs and three blocks while Armstrong, also a sophomore, hit .600.
Savannah State (0-6) led 10-6 in the opening set before B-CU rallied to take a 13-12 lead on a Simon kills, followed by a Delicia Pierre ace that made it 14-12. The Lady Cats closed the set by scoring nine of the final 11 points, including the final five.
B-CU hit .333 in the second set, jumping out to an early 11-4 lead.
A 4-0 run in the third set helped B-CU pull away from a 6-6 tie.
Pierre (seven kills, seven digs and four blocks) and Aria Cormier (three kills, four blocks) had all-around efforts for B-CU, while freshman setter Alexas Thomas posted 31 assists and nine digs. Normarie Rolon also had nine digs, followed by Jennifer Jimenez with eight.

NOTES: Simon has led B-CU kills the last three matches … B-CU’s 40 kills and 14 attack errors were season bests … B-CU now leads the all-time series 26-0 … This was the Lady Wildcats first win in a tournament match since defeating Hampton 3-2 at the B-CU Invitational 9/17/11 (19 matches)
