DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. - Defense and special teams helped Bethune-Cookman score early, then the Wildcat offense posted its fourth 60-point game of the Brian Jenkins era in Saturday’s 66-7 victory over Virginia Union.

Erik Williams and Nick Addison “pick sixes” highlighted a first half where 10 other Wildcat points came after Panther punt miscues gave the Wildcats a short field.

B-CU’s offense would score on five consecutive possessions in the second and third quarter and rack up 464 yards of total offense as the Wildcats improved to 2-0 on the young 2013 season.

Cary White’s 62 yards and one touchdown highlighted the Wildcat rushing offense, while Jontavious Carter caught third-quarter touchdowns from Jackie Wilson and Broderick Waters.

Anthony Jordan and Quentin Willams also rushed for scores for the Wildcats.

The tone was set early when Jameson Wright recovered a VU punt blocked by Jocelyn Borgela Jr. at the Panther 16, setting up a 20-yar Jonathan Cagle field goal five minutes into the contest.

Williams’ pick six and Williams’ 5-yard run – set up by a 44-yard catch by Eddie Poole – pushed B-CU’s lead to 17-0 after one quarter.

The Panthers got on the board with 8:04 remaining in the first half when Damon Kelly’s one-yard run capped off a 65-yard march. But B-CU quickly answered with a 68-yard march spurred by Isidore Williams’ 47-yard burst to produce a one-yard White run with 6:09 left. B-CU led 38-7 at halftime.

Carter’s 16-yarder from Wilson and 22-yarder from Waters pushed B-CU’s lead to 52-7 after three.

Drexler Dixon’s 12-yard run and Michael Jones’ 16-yard touchdown  from Williams concluded the scoring.

All three B-CU quarterbacks had one touchdown pass. Williams was four of five for 73 yards.

B-CU heads south next week to face FIU in Miami on Saturday, Sept. 14, with kickoff set for 6 p.m.
