TAMPA – Bethune-Cookman opened its 2014 season with a 9-0 loss to No. 25/23 South Florida Thursday night in the USF-Wilson DeMarini Tournament.

The Bulls (1-1) blew open a 1-0 game with a four-run fourth, then used a Kourtney Salvarola walk-off grand slam in the fifth to end the game.

Calesha Shelley, Shamaria Engram and Desiree Williams had hits for the Wildcats. Breanna Chavez and Bailey Connor drew leadoff walks, and Kelsey Rodney reached base twice.

Two pitchers made their B-CU debut, with Sabrina Anguiano getting the start and Connor working an inning and a third in relief with three strikeouts.
