B-CU Sits in Eighth Place at Wildcat Invitational
DeLAND, Fla. – The Bethune-Cookman bowling team sits in eighth place after the second day of the Third Annual Wildcat Invitational taking place at Sunshine Bowling Lanes. As one of the Southeast’s largest bowling tournaments each year, the 12-team event continues through Sunday afternoon.
Bethune-Cookman took to the lanes in Traditional matches on Saturday, bowling against teams from Southern, Monmouth, McKendree, UAB and Morgan State. Overall, the Cats walked away with a 2-3 record on the day, leaping a spot in the tournament standings.
In their opening matchup, the Wildcats fell to Southern by a pin count of 837-817. They would fall to Monmouth by a count of 859-783 in their next matchup.
B-CU grabbed a win over 19th-ranked McKendree by a score of 926-891, before turning in an impressive 959-816 victory over UAB. The win over the Bearcats of McKendree was the second over a top 20 program this weekend for the Maroon and Gold. The back-to-back 900-plus performances by the Wildcats were headlined by a 214 score from junior Rachel Moore, and a 235 showing from classmate Rebecca Gomez.
In the final match of the day, The Cats fell to Morgan State, 843-839, in one of the day’s most exciting affairs broadcast live on The CatEye Network.
A total of 10 matches have been streamed through CatEyeNetwork.tv, allowing fans in Germany and Ireland to see their daughters bowl in the Third Annual Wildcat Invitational.
Using a strong performance in their final match of the day, the Arkansas State Red Wolves – ranked No. 1 in the latest NTCA poll, jumped to first place in the total pin count standings, allowing them to earn the top seed for Sunday’s bracket portion. They are followed in order by No. 3 Central Missouri, No. 19 McKendree, No. 16 Alabama State and Alabama A&M to round out the top five seeded squads.
The invitational concludes Sunday with a tournament beginning at 9:30 a.m. The tournament, consisting of Best 4-of-7 Baker matches, will determine the champion.
B-CU will face Monmouth in its opening match Sunday.
