@BCUSoftball Gameday: Hatter Invitational
DELAND, Fla. – After facing two top five teams and a top 25 squad opening weekend, Bethune-Cookman returns to action at the Hatter Invitational with two games Friday.
The Wildcats (0-5) face Elon at 11 a.m. and Campbell at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. Saturday’s slate includes a 1:30 game with Elon and the 6:30 p.m. nightcap with host Stetson. The tournament concludes Sunday with a noon rematch against the Hatters.
B-CU UPDATE: Senior second baseman Kelsey Rodney had a .900 on base percentage last weekend at the USF Wilson DeMarini Tournament. Six of the nine times she reached base came via walk or hit by pitch. When she did connect, she went 3-4 (.750) with two doubles and a RBI. Leadoff hitter Calesha Shelley also had a solid opening weekend, going 4-12 (.333) at the plate.
THROWN TO THE WOLVES, UH THE WOLVERINES TO BE PRECISE: Freshman pitchers Sabrina Anguiano and Bailey Connor saw extensive action on opening weekend. Anguiano started three games, including the opener against USF and No. 4 Michigan. Connor struck out 14 batters in the 13 innings she was inside the circle.
ABOUT STETSON: The Hatters went 2-0 during the Stetson Lead-Off Classic last weekend, defeating Michigan State 5-1 and Rhode Island 12-0. The Hatters went yard four times in those two games.
ABOUT CAMPBELL: The Camels (2-2) downed Valparaiso and Seton Hall last weekend.
ABOUT ELON: The Phoenix (3-0-1) had a strong weekend at the Charleston Southern Tournament (Feb. 8-9), defeating UNC Wilmington and Maryland Eastern Shore before tying Charleston Southern after the game was called due to darkness.
