DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – After posting its first road win of the season, Bethune-Cookman returns home to face Delaware State Saturday at 4 p.m. in Historic Moore Gym.
The Wildcats (6-21 overall,4-8 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) are battling for seeding for the conference tournament next month. They trail South Carolina State, North Carolina A&T and Howard by one game for seventh and Florida A&M for tenth. Delaware State (6-17,2-8) is one game behind B-CU.
If the MEAC tournament started next week, B-CU would face Coppin State in the opening round with the winner of that game facing Hampton in the quarterfinals.
B-CU UPDATE: The Cats have won four of their last six and are 5-4 at home this season. Malik Jackson has been in the double figures the past six games. Mikel Trapp is 11-16 from 3FG over the past three games. Tony Kynard has reached double figures twice in the past four games.
ABOUT DSU: The Hornets are on a two-game winning streak. Casey Walker leads DSU with a 12.2 per game scoring average followed by Tyshawn Bell at 11.8 ppg
BACK IN THE DAY: On February 15 in 1968: Johnnie Allen scored 42 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead Bethune-Cookman to a 108-83 win over Florida Tech.
CONGRATS TO A CAT: Former B-CU standout Freddie Cole’s Lake Mineola Hawks advanced in the State 6A tournament with a win over Deltona Thursday.
