Johnson Named MEAC Baseball Player of the Week
NORFOLK, Va. - With the inaugural weekend of the 2014 baseball season in the books, the Wildcats are off to a fast start in recognition for their efforts. Officials from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced on Wednesday (Feb. 19) that Josh Johnson has been named the first MEAC Player of the Week of the campaign.
Johnson (RF, Sr., Tampa, Fla.) batted .500 (4-for-8), and scored the game-winning run to defeat Cal State-Northridge 2-1 in the Wildcats’ season opener. Johnson was the only player to notch a hit in each game of the series, and reached base at a .667 clip, registering zero strikeouts across the three games.
Johnson earned first team All-MEAC honors in the 2013 season.
The Wildcats open a three-game weekend series with Florida Gulf Coast on Friday (Feb. 21), running through Sunday (Feb. 23). The Eagles (3-1) completed a four-game weekend series last Sunday, topping Rhode Island in the finale, 4-3.
