LAKE WORTH, Fla. – Senior Rafael Abad fired a 1-under-par 71 on Saturday, leading all Bethune-Cookman University men’s golfers in the second round of the FAU Slomin Autism Invite, held at The Fountains Country Club. The event is being hosted by Florida Atlantic University in Lake Worth, Fla.

Abad, a senior from Valencia, Venezuela, registered his lowest second round outing of the year with his 71 scored on Saturday. On the year, Abad has secured rounds of 69 and 71, respectively, both times previously posted in the third round of events/tournaments. His 71 cut nine strokes off his score from Friday’s opening round, and moved him up 11 spots in the tournament field.

Abad sits with an overall score of 151 (80-71) heading into Sunday’s final round.

Meanwhile, sophomore Leon Fricker continued his steady pace of play in the spring, carding a 3-over-par 75 on Saturday, giving him a two-round total of 148 (73-75) to lead all Wildcats competitors, and placing him in a tie for 26th in the tournament field heading into the championship round on Sunday.

Emmanuel Petrich is second on the team in scoring through 36 holes, after firing a second round 4-over-par 76. He holds a scorecard of 149 (73-76), and is tied for 31st overall.

Sophomore Ryan Fricker, an NCAA qualifier from a season ago, fired a second round 2-over-par 74, adding to his 76 from Friday to put him in a tie for 35th in the tournament field, holding a 150 score overall. Just a shot back is Abad, tied for 42nd place.

The final B-CU competitor is JaMichael Jones (82-84=166), placing himself 79th.

As a team, Bethune-Cookman (302-296=598) is 10th after bouncing back to score a team 296 on Saturday. The Wildcats are just six strokes back of host FAU, and within striking distance of Florida Gulf Coast and Hartford, each tied for seventh with a 591.

Leon Fricker, the younger of the brothers from Ivybridge, England, leads all B-CU players with a 1-under-par average on par-three holes, while Abad is even-par on those holes. Petrich leads the Cats in par-four holes, and it’s Abad paving the way on par-five with a 4-under average.
