NEW ORLEANS - With competition in the books at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the members of its All-America teams on Wednesday (June 18), with three Wildcats making an appearance among those recognized.

Freshman Kenneth Fisher, junior Tremayne Banks and sophomore Tristie Johnson each earned Honorable Mention All-America honors after qualifying for competition at the NCAA Championships.

“It’s a big step for the program being able to get more kids to Nationals and receive those type of awards,” Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Donald Cooper said. “It’s definitely rewarding and brings a lot more exposure to the program, and it shows that we’re going in the right direction with the right staff to help us get there.”

Fisher reached Nationals in the long jump, finishing 19th in the semifinal with a mark of 7.15m (23-05.50 ft.). Banks also finished 19th in the 110m hurdles semifinal with a time of 14.19. Johnson racked up two qualifications for her first NCAA semifinal appearance, finishing 18th in the 100m in 11.45 seconds, while also coming in 22nd in the 200m with a time of 24.12.

With two underclassmen in the group, all three will return to action at B-CU in the 2014-15 season for another opportunity at the Indoor and Outdoor NCAA Championships.

“It’s exciting for them. They know they have the opportunity and the talent to get back on that stage and make the final,” Cooper noted. “They’re really ready to get started for next season. it’s also inspiring to our other athletes, knowing that they can earn the same opportunity as well.”

The next big move for the Wildcats will be the elite USATF postseason meets. Fisher is qualified to compete at USATF Junior Nationals in Eugene, July 5-6. Both Johnson and Banks qualified for the USATF Outdoor Nationals, June 19-22, but will not be attending.
