@BCUGridIron Opens 2014 Camp
DAYTONA BEACH, Florida – Under the direction of head coach Brian Jenkins, the Bethune-Cookman University football team conducted its first day of practice on Friday, Aug. 1. The Wildcats have been predicted to finish atop the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and win at least a share of their third consecutive league title, as voted on by MEAC head coaches and sports information directors.
With temperatures ranging in the high 80s, and winds coming out the SE at 5-10 mph, the Wildcats looked in spirited form on the first day. The heat index was just around 93 degrees with light-to-moderate cloud cover helping limit the maximum heat index possibility.
With Jenkins embarking upon his fifth season at the helm in Daytona Beach, the Wildcats went through precision and game-speed drills across several periods.
When asked about what he generally expects from the first day of his camps, Jenkins elaborated on his beliefs.
“The guys should be willing to go through the process to reach the goals that we want to achieve,” said Jenkins following practice. “They should be willing to set the standard of execution high with effort, energy, detail and discipline at a high level as well. Then come back and consistently reach that standard in practice each and every day.”
The Cats get back to the practice fields on Saturday, with a time to be determined later Friday evening.
Bethune-Cookman begins the 2014 season August 30, traveling to Miami to face the FIU Panthers.
