B-CU Ranks 23rd in FCS Preseason Coaches Poll
DAYTONA BEACH, Florida – The Bethune-Cookman University football team will begin the 2014 season ranked No. 23 in the FCS Preseason Coaches Poll, announced Monday afternoon by the NCAA FCS offices in Indianapolis.
Bethune-Cookman received 136 votes in the preseason poll, sitting ahead of teams from Richmond (24) and Northern Arizona (25). Spanning back to the latter part of the 2012 campaign, Bethune-Cookman has now been ranked in 19 consecutive polls, ending the 2013 campaign at No. 16, advancing to the school’s second consecutive FCS Playoff appearance and winning at least a share of the MEAC title for the second straight year.
Predicted to win the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) by the league head coaches and sports information directors, the Cats landed six student-athletes on the preseason All-MEAC First-, Second- and Third Teams. Andrew Edouard (OL), LeBranden Richardson (DL) and Marquis Drayton (SS) landed on the First Team. Quentin Williams (QB) and Rony Barrow (DL) were tabbed second team performers. Meanwhile, Jhomo Gordon (WR) was a third team member.
North Dakota State, winners of the last three NCAA FCS championships, collected 18 of a possible 25 first place votes to sit atop the poll, followed by Eastern Washington who collected six first place votes. Southeast Louisiana picked up a first place vote and sits third, with New Hampshire and Montana following at fourth and fifth, respectively.
Bethune-Cookman begins the 2014 season August 30, traveling to Miami to face the FIU Panthers.
