Wildcats Set to Host Hall of Fame Weekend
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Bethune-Cookman University athletics department is set to host the Hall of Fame Induction Weekend beginning Friday, Sept. 21, through Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012. The weekend is highlighted by the induction of 12 former student-athletes and coaches into the Wildcats Hall of Fame.
This is the first induction class for Bethune-Cookman since 2001, thus the rather large number for this year's event.
"We are proud to bring these great people back to campus for this historic weekend to honor them for their tremendous accomplishments and contributions to Bethune-Cookman University," said Lynn W. Thompson, Director of Athletics.
The weekend begins with the dedication of the Larry R. Handfield Athletic Training Center. The state-of-the-art football facility will provide the Wildcats coaching staff and student-athletes with the best possible way to compete on the field and in the classroom with a well-equipped weight room, coaches' suites, team meeting rooms, computer labs and more. The facility is located at 635 International Speedway Boulevard across from the current football practice field.
The weekend kicks off Friday, September 21 at noon for the dedication of the Larry R. Handfield Athletic Training Center
The induction dinner will take place Friday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. The event is a catered affair inside the banquet room of the Michael and Libby Johnson Center for Civic Engagement and is by reservation only at this time. However, all media are invited to attend the event and speak with this year's inductees. Dress for the event will be business attire.
The festivities continue the following day with the Class of 2012 leading the "Legacy Walk" with the Wildcats football team as they arrive at Municipal Stadium with head coach Brian Jenkins at 2 p.m. The pregame ceremony honoring all 12 members begins on the field at 3:30 p.m.
The game against Tennessee State University kicks off at 4 p.m.
